1. Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff. Please? by Scott McLeod
In this post he is addressing parents administrators, teachers, and board members. He is listing things that they should not let their children do that have to do with using technology. He is making technology sound like an evil thing but he is very sarcastic with his tone. I completely agree with him, people are way too judgmental when it comes to technology. If technology is used the right way there are many benefits that it has. The world is moving in that direction and there is no way to stop it but you can learn how to use it properly and teach your children those ways.

2. The iSchool Initiative by Travis Allen
Travis Allen made a youtube video when he was a high school student. This video contained information about ischool a new revolution of learning for schools. Instead of having textbooks and globes you could view it all on an ipod touch. This would save a lot of money for not only the school but the student. They would no longer have to spend money on paper or calculator it would all be in one.
I think this is a great idea. The world is already moving to a technological world. Everything is going to digital why not education. Students not only will have more resoures to learn but would be able to learn how to use technology effective. Students could also have more interactive learning. For example they can find a country on a map on then see the real pictures or videos from the place right then.

3. Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir
This video is amazing to me. It’s incredible that all these people from all over could come together to sound like that. This video is especially appealing to me because I am a singer and it’s not easy to get people to sound that good without a lot of practice. The internet is an amazing thing, I am blown away.

4. Teaching in the 21st Century by Kevin Robert
In this video he makes a very good point that teachers are not the only way anymore that student can learn things. Google, Facebook, and other networks are available to students. Any question a student has can be found within seconds. This will effect and does today effect how teachers teach.
Teachers need to stay current with information so they can answers any question that a student may have. They also can teach them how to properly find correct information. Students need to understand that just because it’s online doesn’t mean its accurate. Student also need to learn how to pick things of a website online. Teachers can still be just as good as they were before they now just have to approach teaching in a different way . I think education is stuck in this mindset that everything has to stay the same. Education of all things needs to stay with the times. We are teaching our children to prepare them for the future so we need to make sure it’s the right future.

5.Reading Rockets
I think this a great resource for teachers and parents. Student weather they struggle in reading or not should enjoy reading. When I was little I hated to read and I still do to this day because in my elementary school we were forced to read. We did Accelerated Reader. I struggled with reading and I used to be punished for it. This site has a lot of things that can help teachers to make it easier for the students.
Sometimes you can even help the student with their reading struggles without them knowing. You could make them read a book with difficult words in it but a interesting book for the student. This way they will want to keep reading to find out the end and help there stills at the same time. The best way to teach a student is to do it when they don’t think they are learning. This website can also give parents ideas of what they can do at home to help the student the more a student is exposed the better.

1st Graders Create Their Own Read-Along Audiobook
A first grade teacher took some student out of the class room to record themselves reading the book. She also made a manuscript so the students could easily follow along. Having the audio played for the students as they read made them excited to read. The students recording the stories also had fun because they learned how to make their voices sound to make the story come to life. This can also help the student’s ability to read faster because if they were reading on their own they would have to sound the words. This way they can hear them and learn new words. I would love to do something like this in my class room to get the students more excited about reading. As a child I did not enjoy reading because it was not made fun for me. This is a way to get them excited and involved.

Listening-Comprehension-Podcasting
The second grade class was able to listen to themselves and create a “script” of the Hebrew language. They recorded it in garage band. By using technology in a classroom advances the child’s learning process, because it helps them listen to themselves and gives more visual guidance on whatever the topic is. It’s very neat how you can hear how fluent the 2nd graders sound when they speak Hebrew, when they use the Smart Board to figure out the order, the clarity, and how well everything flowed together. This is a great way to get students learning another language that they can enjoy learning.

Podcasting with First Grade
The first grades at her school got to hear the second grades podcast and wanted to make their own. The class made it interview style and made up questions to ask. Each first grader had a script and the characters they used were Jack (for the boys) and Annie (for the girls). All of her students wanted to take part in it even the shy ones. They were very excited and wanted to make sure they sounded just right. Knowing that people all over the world were commenting kept them motivated.

C4T #1

Summary Post 1
My Blog that I was assigned to was Becky Goerend .She is a fifth grade teacher from Iowa. Her blog was about how the Common Core wording is not child friendly language. She talks about how the wording is too advanced for students and it’s not always clear to them what is expected. In order for her class to understand it they broke it down and reworded it so they could understand.
I agreed that the progress report used words that children may not understand. When words like that are used it can cause confusion among the students. I think that the text should be written in a way students understand clearly.

Summary Post 2
Becky did a project with her class where every student had a strip of paper. On these strips they wrote a talent that they had. After every student had written their talent they put them together to make a chain. She did this to show that they all have unique strengths.
My comment was I think this is a great idea to do within a classroom. This shows students that they all have special talents that they can offer. Sometimes with student they think they have nothing to offer but this shows them that this is not true. This makes them feel like they are important, which is a good quality because sometimes they don’t feel important at home.

Child playing on a ipad

Technology in Special Education
It is truly amazing how easier things can become for a special needs student because of technology. Students not only can learn easier but they get to feel more independent. Students can do things and feel proud of them.
In Lacy Cooks classroom she can give her students the tools they need for the classroom on a individual level. For example Corbin can now listen to his book on his own because he now has an iPod to help him. Because of this iPod he can listen whenever he wants to. He doesn’t have to wait for anyone. Having technology in the classroom also helps them to communicate. Not only can it be used on and individual bases but it also helps the class as a whole to have visuals.
In my classroom it could be used to help them learn basic skills by making it fun for them. A lot of websites have things where students can play games to learn. If they are having fun doing it they will remember it easier.

How the iPad Works with Academics for Autism
The app that I found was Alphabet Photo Machine. This app would be very useful in the classroom. This app gives you the letter how you say it, and a picture of something that starts with it. This is good for special needs students because they can relate the letter to objects and they can hear it said out loud. This would be good because if just one student is having trouble they could play it on their own and learn.

Gary Hayes Social Media Count
In the video Gary Hayes Social Media Count I.it is truly unreal how frequent all of these things are being used. It’s almost as we are depend on them. At the rate technology is growing and being used these days education has to stay with it. As a teacher technology needs to be used in the classroom. This will not only help the student now but also in the future when they have to use it for a job.
As a teacher you need to know all you can about technology, so you can help your students succeed in the best way possible. There is a new wave coming for teachers, which will change how everything in the classroom is done and taught.

Michael Wesch: A Vision of Students Today
In  the video Michael Wesch: A Vision of Students Today  it made a very good point. I think student will be more receptive to learn material if it was more interesting. Yes, I know this sounds crazy but if the classroom was set up in a different way things could be more engaging. A lot of students just go through college and don’t think much of it. The thing is most of them don’t realize how lucky they are that they are in college.
A lot of people can’t afford to go to school so they don’t have the same chances. The truth is everything in that video was true and a lot of students feel lost in the world of college. Americans take for granted getting an education a little too much.

image of two computers shaking hands

Did You Know By John Strange
In the video Did You Know By John Strange their were  some very shocking statistics. It talked about how frequent people used the Internet and there cell phones. We are preparing people for job that don’t even exists yet. The world is so dependent on technology and one day technology will completely take over. According to this video its already a lot more relevant in people lives then it used to be.
Its really mind boggling how dependent people really are on technology. Its amazing how many people use youtube every second. Most people don’t call anymore they SMS message. When anyone needs a question answered they go to google. Its hard to try to think what life would be without technology. Whether you realize it or not your using technology everyday.

Mr. Winkle Wakes
In the video Mr. Winkle Wakes it opens with Mr. Winkle waking up from a hundred year old nap. He starts walking around to see what has changed. He saw people from talking to people from different countries on computers. He also went into a hospital and saw the technology there. He saw machines keeping people alive and lasers helping people. He was very overwhelmed at how much things have changed. He went to a school but noticed there were no changes in the school. There was a computer but it was not being used.
This video showed perfectly how technology is used everywhere in the real world but not in school. Even the schools that have technology don’t utilize it . Students should learn how to start using technology in the real world that way by the time they have a job they will be masters at using technology. It shows that education is behind in the times.

Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity
In the video Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity ,Robinson talks about how kids are born to be artists, because of their creative imaginations. They are told at a young age to use that creativity to help them grow. But once they become older they are, in a sense, 'brainwashed' to go through the education system and move on to the adult life, and to discontinue their childhood creativity. He talks about how education kills creativity in his speech. A child has such a broad imagination, but as time goes on and that child becomes an adult, that broad imagination is not so broad anymore. He claims that the more educated an individual becomes, the less creativity is used and the same, boring stuff is used over and over until it is drilled in their heads.

A Vision for 21st Century Learning
In the video A Vision for 21st Century Learning they talk about taking a child out of the normal class room environment to learn and making it fun so the child doesn’t know their learning. They are talking about making it a game where they could learn about other places but actually get to see places in those locations. I think this is a great idea because when things are fun a memorable they will stick and children will want to learn more.

Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts
In the video Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts it talks about how she used every type of technology in the class room to teach. She customizes it to the student because not all students are the same but she believes that every student can learn. She believes that students should be able to learn and find some things out on her own.
I think this is very smart . She is letting them interact with people all over the world and give them a since of accomplishment. It gives them something to be proud of. The students get a whole new taste of the world and actually gets to have relations with people they otherwise wouldn’t have the change to interact with.
